Decarboxylation and dab temperature
THCA loses a carbon dioxide molecule when it gets hot. The reaction is called decarboxylation. Lab work shows it starts near 220°F (105°C) and speeds up as temperature rises. Dabs run hotter than that.

Ask for the COA. Labs report THCA and delta-9 THC in two columns. Total THC is calculated as THCA × 0.877 plus delta-9 THC. The 0.877 factor accounts for the mass lost during decarboxylation. A batch with 75% THCA and 1% delta-9 THC reads about 66.8% total THC.
Check the press date. Rosin is perishable. THCA crystals convert to THC with time and heat, so an old jar can carry a different ratio than the label states.
Storage
Keep the jar sealed, in the dark, between 60°F and 70°F. A refrigerator works for long storage. Let the jar reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation. Rosin holds quality for 6 to 12 months under those conditions. Terpenes fade first, then the texture changes.
Legal status
Federal law defines hemp as cannabis with 0.3% or less delta-9 THC by dry weight. THCA is a separate molecule and is not named in the federal schedules. A 2022 DEA letter to a hemp company stated that THCA is not a controlled substance under federal law. State rules differ. California blocks THCA in hemp products sold outside licensed cannabis shops.
