THC-P is a cannabinoid found in cannabis. The molecule carries a seven-carbon side chain. Delta-9 THC carries a five-carbon chain. Flower holds THC-P at low concentrations, so most THC-P sold in stores comes from hemp-derived CBD converted in a lab. No human clinical trials exist. User reports describe effects that start at lower doses and last longer than delta-9 THC.
What THC-P Is
THC-P stands for tetrahydrocannabiphorol. Researchers identified it in 2019 in a Cannabis sativa sample. The two extra carbons on the side chain change how the molecule binds the CB1 receptor in laboratory assays. One study measured higher CB1 affinity for THC-P than for delta-9 THC. That result comes from cells in a dish, not from people.
Forms Sold in Stores
- Gummies, sold by milligram per piece and per package.

- Flower or prerolls coated with THC-P distillate.
Labels vary by maker. A package might list 5 mg THC-P per gummy, or 100 mg per bag, or both. Some labels list total cannabinoids instead of THC-P alone. Read the serving size line before you buy.
What the Lab Report Shows
Ask for the certificate of analysis, or COA. A useful COA lists four panels.
- Cannabinoid potency, with THC-P and delta-9 THC in milligrams per unit.
- Residual solvents.
- Pesticides and heavy metals.
- Microbials and mycotoxins.
Match the batch number on the COA to the batch number on the package. Check the test date. A COA from 2022 does not describe a product made in 2025.
Legal Status
The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp and hemp derivatives from the Controlled Substances Act when delta-9 THC stays at or below 0.3 percent by dry weight. The law does not name THC-P. Federal agencies have not issued a rule that covers THC-P on its own. State rules differ. Several states ban intoxicating hemp cannabinoids, and THC-P falls inside some of those bans. Check your state cannabis or agriculture department before you travel with a package or order one by mail.
